In this module, students are introduced to the concept of genes (genotypes), which code for the traits expressed by organisms (phenotypes). To engage students in the topic, they make an inventory of some of their own genetic traits, investigating how they are passed down, and examine the genetics of some familiar organisms (such as pets).
