Eliminating Misconceptions in Biotechnology Using Concept Cards

Oner cover of Master Teacher Fellowship project

This unit, developed by ABE Türkiye Master Teacher Fellow Fethi Ahmet Öner, uses concept cards as an inquiry-based instructional strategy to identify and address common misconceptions in biotechnology. Through visual, interactive, and discussion-based activities, students build accurate understanding of key biotechnology concepts—including DNA, genetic engineering, GMOs, PCR, gene therapy, and bioethics—while strengthening critical thinking and scientific literacy. Designed for middle and high school learners, the unit provides teachers with ready-to-use concept cards, assessment tools, lesson plans, and differentiation strategies that support meaningful, student-centered learning and conceptual change.
