This month, the ABE Program Office would like to recognize Anna Wedderburn, who serves as the lab technician for ABE Ireland. Anna joined the ABE Ireland team in December 2020 in the midst of the pandemic. She self-trained and began to focus on improvement and outreach. Anna worked with staff in teacher education centers outside of University College Dublin to ensure kit loans resumed smoothly as schools reopened. Her open communication style and friendly but professional approach have been so important in meeting teachers’ needs in the face of so much uncertainty.

Anna has initiated new inclusion projects, including translating ABE resources into the Irish language (Gaelic) for use in schools that teach entirely through the native language; and compiling a core set of scientific terms created in Irish sign language, which enables teachers to adapt resources in schools for pupils who are hearing impaired.

While Anna will continue to serve as ABE Ireland’s lab technician, she is also transitioning into the role of project coordinator. Anna, thank you for all that you do. We’re confident that you’ll be an asset to the ABE community for years to come!
