This July the Program Office would like to recognize Elif Adıbelli Şahin, site director of ABE Turkey. Elif has dedicated years of hard work to bringing ABE to Turkey, refusing to let changes in political climate, shifts in the educational infrastructure, or a global pandemic slow the adoption of the program. Elif and her team have already managed to create a passionate and committed ABE teacher community despite the need to go virtual last year, encouraging teachers to use video, What’s App, and videoconferencing to share practice, engage in peer coaching, and reflect on how ABE can be adapted in their own classrooms. Elif’s positive and proactive leadership style has created an exciting and innovative program, with a teacher community that is supported and encouraged to try new things. Elif’s deep expertise in curriculum and science instruction, experience in creating systemic and research-based professional development, and commitment to equity are valuable assets to the ABE program as a whole.
