As we begin the new year, the Program Office would like to recognize an ABE community member who has brought tireless positivity, humor, and innovation to the ABE program: Eugenia O’Brien of ABE Australia. Since the team at the University of Sydney joined ABE in 2016, Eugenia has been one of our most collaborative and influential program leaders. Her passion for equity and pilot work with her team conducting outreach to indigenous populations in Australia has provided a wonderful model from which we continue to learn. Eugenia has willingly presented at program meetings (remember when they were face to face?), virtual meetings, and behind the scenes, gladly sharing pre-kit-distribution teacher assessments, as well as strategies for re-opening labs and classrooms safely during the pandemic. In our darkest moments this year, Eugenia has helped shine a light, share a smile, and remind us of the great work that continues to take place despite all obstacles.
