Cutbacks in education funding and a lack of resource for scientific laboratory experiments in the classroom have been addressed by an innovative science education programme designed to introduce the excitement of real-world scientific discovery to students. The Amgen Biotech Experience, solely delivered by the University of Hertfordshire’s Regional Science Learning Centre Consortia in England and supported by Cambridge University and Teacher Scientist Network in Norwich, provides a hands-on, molecular biology curriculum that explores many of the steps researchers use to produce medicines to approximately 1,400 A-Level and GCSE students across more than 50 schools.
